I'd rather hold Fres shares anyday of the week than Citygroup LOL, especially the way things are going,we just need the US QE 3 and Fres, silver and gold will soar.I'll be adding again to my holding this week on any weakness.

Hi Rhigos, all - my guess is that the fall was due to the Citi downgrade combined with the general drop in the markets (unless, of course, it was due to my buying back in last month); as you've mentioned previously, the dividend isn't huge, so a small cut (and the fool.com article is the first I've heard of such a cut, albeit I'm not the world's best news-sleuth) shouldn't result in a drop as large as we've seen. In the medium/long-term, both silver & gold are likely to go up, and Fres shareholders will benefit accordingly - I'll top up if the SP drops much more (for now, it's watch & wait)..... as ever, best of luck!

Fresnillo has never been a popular stock with analysts. Not really sure why but generally it is because they cannot apply their valuation criteria.

'forecast to cut in the future, as is Fresnillo.'

Perhaps this helps to explain terrible SP performance since high of 2150p on 9/9/11 (-34%). I note it was downgraded yesterday Citigroup.

You might also like the article below. The point, however, is to use these deliberate and extreme short sales to buy, as the Chinese/Asians do. Although they happen almost daily, they are becoming less and less effective and are taking far greater paper sales to make an impression. No one knows when the gold and silver short positions will fail; all we can be certain of is that we are getting closer to that point. When they do, especially in silver, the price will run to multiples it is today.

"and how do you think the opening of the Chinese silver exchange in Hong Kong this June I believe will effect silver prices."

China opened it because they thing the price is being manipulated, but not down, they think the price is manipulated too high!

For those who think the manipulation is down, just look at Fresnillos prodcution report... yep that's a silver gold ratio of 93 to 1. At that ratio and current gold prices that should price silver at around $18!

DYOR and don't believe anyone. ;D

Unmanipulated, the silver price should change towards it's historic price prace to gold of 1:15. Currently it's 1:50.

1 to 15 is the approximate ration of gold to silver in the Earth's crust, but there is though to be considerably less silver above ground in physical form than there is gold. This relative scarsity should be price supportive, as is the fact that industry 'consumes' silver (i.e. frittered away never to be recovered) in ways that gold doesn't get used.

It is very volatile, which in a way helps in trading profitably in Fresnillo because the two prices (silver and the company shares) are definately related. All external economic news apart, as shareholders we know the company are performing very well on a mining front, but the dips in the silver price do cause the Fresnillo price to dip as well, it is simply a wait for the silver price to bottom out, which in my opinion is between the $28 to $30 mark over the past 6-12 months, at this point you can confidently purchase Frenillo shares, knowing the shares will rise.

I get the feeling you do not approve though, but I do wonder at what share price Fresnillo would be if the silver price stopped being 'manipulated' and actually shot up to some of the forecasts these videos show!!! Knowing my investing skills I'd have sold with a mere 10% gain and would watch helplessly as the share price multiplied by thousands of percent . Unmanipulated do you really think a price of silver should be equal to that of gold? By bushwhacker

Well, on 29th February.........

Just as Ben Bernanke got up to speak, someone 'sold' over 300 Million Oz of silver in less than an hour.

Lets look at that number.......it's about 40% of the world's annual mined production of silver! Compared that with the world largest primary producer of silver, FRES's proven and probable reserves of 400 Moz!!!

Of course it not manipulated. By pseudopolylageraemia

Any of you more knowledgeable posters any insight on the above.

Personally I think it (silver) is being manipulated and shorted by certain institutions big time but I'd be interested to hear other views on this, and how do you think the opening of the Chinese silver exchange in Hong Kong this June I believe will effect silver prices.
