"Patience is not a risk management strategy under any circumstances." Well, I may lose Tas by luring him down the avenue of logical arguments, but if patience IS a consideration in my risk management strategy, doesn't that immediately disprove his point?! There are a number of stocks which have languished after I bought them, often badly and for years, only to end up making me very good money indeed with a recovery in fortunes, in perception and/or a fortuitous takeover or two. Maybe not so fortuitous... often the best way of crystallising the value which, if you know what you're doing, your research will have identified. So take heart LKH - if your goal is a 7% pa. real return, as should be the benchmark (risk adjusted, naturally) for any equity investment, then my guess is TSCO will do you just fine from 329p. If you're patient. Of course, can't promise it isn't going to 275p - if it does I will certainly be buying some, if not before. BTW - not sure why Tas is so eager we take risk out of our portfolios. All equity investment is risk, equity risk premium = long run real return. No risk, no return. With stocks, much more satisfying to back your judgement, try and get the timing right of course, but above all... keep doing the research and keep patient. It wouldn't be the same if I was currently trading, of course, but then I wouldn't have been able to go out and play golf today in the sun. When I got back, my stocks were still okay, still risky, still promising returns. Will be the same tomorrow, and next week. By Bill1703

You don't look at prices too hard. .You forgot to mention that Sainsbury have 400g MsVitie chocolate digestives on special offer this week reduced from £1.93 to £1 (400g packet) So they are normally 10% more expensiive than Tesco (£1.75). On the other hand you also forgot to mention Tesco are doing a buy '1 get 1 free' at £1.75 , so that reduces their cost to 87p, stiill 12.5% cheaper.. http://tinyurl.com/boh6mas AT By Alan Tittymarsh

Hardcore, "Like your Weir, which I don´t think you thought through (Weir prosperity depends on a high oil & gas price) I still reckon you´re get Tesco for sub 275p in due course " I can assure you, m8, that I thought Weir through extremely carefully (though I may have got in too soon). If Weir's prosperity depends on a high oil and gas price perhaps you can explain to me why, long after the US gas price was collapsing under the incremental gas supply from fracking, Weir's share price was soaring away far above my entry point? As for Tesco being available for sub 275p, well, maybe it will and maybe it won't. I've got the sucker in my Sipp and I'm still focussed on the future flow of long term divis, not the share price (though obviously I'd be better off if I'd bought at £3 rather than £3.29). If, when I cash in my Sipp, it'll only generate enough for a smaller replacement for Vulganus, I shall at least be able to reflect that I shall be doing my bit for the planet by burning less diesel. We must all do our bit and make sacrifices in these straitened economic circumstances. LKH on the flybridge, Grand Harbour for lunch By LK Hyman
