They're interesting days right about now and competition is building. Not only that but there does seem to be a common theme... Apart from this new entrant with a former Northgate Chairman and Ops Director, we have several pseudo NTG businesses all run or involving ex NTG people; Transflex; Funded by the Vardy Group, ex NTG staff include former CEO Steve Smith. former FD Ged Murray and at least one former NTG company MD. It's rumoured that there are others behind the scenes too. Hiregate: Owned by Dawsons but operated by a swathe of ex NTG employees and directors There's CVS, majority owned by Close Brothers PLC and having a sprinkling of ex Northgate staff. And don't forget Enterprise Flexirent, again ran by former NTG staff and directors. These businesses are still relatively fledgling but all have access to substantial asset capital. They aren't a great worry for NTG today but watch this space. You can be sure that between them they know who and where pretty much every Northgate customer is. By Mr Irrelevant

The Expert View: Whitbread, Fresnillo and Afren A round-up of analyst notes, including their take on Kofax and Northgate. by Caelainn Barr on Dec 07, 2011 at 00:01 http://bit.ly/rzWGPT Peel Hunt keeps 'buy' on Northgate following strong interim results Andrew Nussey, analyst at Peel Hunt, has kept a buy recommendation on Northgate (NTG.L), and his forecast for the year remained unchanged following the company's interim results. The van rental agencys half-year report shows profits before tax increased 19% in the first half to £32.3 million and earnings per share gained 13% to 17.4p. Nussey said: Interims are slightly ahead. UK, 71% earnings-before-tax, demonstrating resilience with 90% utilisation and rising yield (2%). Residuals remain a key support. Spain, 29% earnings-before-tax, continues to perform well in tough markets. Outlook is unchanged and we are maintaining estimates. By SpikeyDT

| 14:42 06/12/2011 | Buy Northgate, says Peel Hunt |
http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/Broker-snap-Buy-Northgate-digilook-2846175178.html?x=0 Buy Northgate, says Peel Hunt Companies:NORTHGATE Tuesday Morning Corp. Topics:Upgrades 11:03, Tuesday 6 December 2011 LONDON (ShareCast) - Peel Hunt has reiterated its buy rating for vehicle hire firm Northgate (Other OTC: NGTEF.PK - news) after the firm's first half results came in slightly ahead of forecasts. The firm's clean pre-tax profits were 2% above Peel Hunt's expectations, with UK operations (which account for 71% of earnings before interest, tax and amortisation) demonstrating "resilience", the broker said. Also, analyst Andrew Nussey notes that Spain continues to perform well in tough markets. "Our estimates continue to assume that UK recovery will be gradual and that Spain remains under pressure. While Northgate is still exposed to cyclical risk, we believe the potential for positive surprises (UK performance and return on capital employed [ROCE]), long-term value creation and management quality should be reflected in a higher rating," said Nussey. Peel Hunt says that the shares are currently trading at just 0.9 times book value but should trade at a premium given the improving ROCE (12.5%). With the outlook unchanged, the target price of 350p and buy rating are left in place. Nevertheless, shares edged lower on Tuesday morning (NasdaqGS: TUES - news) , trading down 2.89% at 235p by 10:59. BC By SpikeyDT

Mr I, I am one of those who left NTG and for all the reasons you mentioned. Its such a shame that a business built by Mr N with such great foundations has been and is being torn apart by a bunch of accountants who do not understand the business. I hear the man at the top of the sales team has left, tells its own story I suppose. By Nirvana195

I know for sure that external audits have taken place by people in cars with Enterprise tax discs but then the cars might simply be hired. They do that you know. Overall the morale of the troops continues to drop and the company continues to focus inwards. Quality teams, implementation groups new systems etc. I know some excellent people who have left leaving other perfectly good but inexperienced people running the shop. The job is not difficult really; buy vans as cheap as you can, rent as many as you can and then sell them for as much as you can get for them. In between we can get excited about obscure ratios but the bottom line is that restructuring every other day and focusing internally whilst ignoring your customers is not a great strategy. TLS were doing exactly the same years ago. I recall when I joined NTG from TLS I said to Mr Blunose that within TLS the only calls the salespeople make are to each other to discuss the latest restructure. Sadly history seems to be repeating itself. By Mr Irrelevant
