| 23:44 30/11/2011 | Britvic signs further US distribution deals |
| http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/383c6116-1b25-11e1-85f8-00144feabdc0.html#ixzz1fEeY1yw5 November 30, 2011 10:27 am Britvic signs further US distribution deals By Adam Jones Britvic is pushing its Fruit Shoot brand further into the US after signing distribution deals in three more states, as well as a local manufacturing agreement. Announcing flat annual underlying pre-tax profits, Britvic said the drink would be going on sale in Kentucky, Florida and Georgia. Its US presence is at present confined to Alabama, North Carolina and South Carolina. It also announced that Pepsi Bottling Ventures, Fruit Shoots distributor in the Carolinas, would start making the drink from concentrate sent over from Dublin in 2012. Paul Moody, Britvic chief executive, said the manufacturing deal was a really important first step to accelerating our growth in the US by removing the need to ship the finished product across the Atlantic. It enables us to eliminate a high level of supply chain cost, he said, adding that related marketing and other investments would initially offset the positive impact on its gross margin in the US. Mr Moody said the attraction of Fruit Shoot to US partners was that it was a proven success in terms of its child-oriented brand positioning, taste and packaging. While Fruit Shoot is the initial focus in the US, other Britvic brands could follow in its wake, he added: As we establish our position we would certainly look to add further brands. For the year to October 2, Britvics sales were £1.29bn, up 13 per cent on the figure for the 2009-10 financial year, which contained 53 weeks rather than 52. The gain was largely thanks to the acquisition of Fruité, a French soft drinks company. Pre-tax profit was £79.9m, reflecting an accounting gain of £13.2m on the closure of its defined benefit pension scheme to fresh accrual, as well as restructuring costs of £25m and other exceptional items. The profit compared with a loss of £28.8m a year earlier. On an underlying basis that strips out exceptionals and adjusts for the extra week of trading a year earlier, pre-tax profit was £105.1m, up marginally from £104.6m. Mr Moody said market conditions would remain challenging, adding that its input costs were likely to rise by mid to high single-digits in percentage terms over the next year. Diluted earnings per share were 23.7p, compared with a loss of 21.4p a year earlier. A final dividend of 12.6p per share has been proposed, making a total of 17.7p for the year, a rise of 6 per cent on the previous annual pay-out. Britvic shares rose 1.6p to 338p in early morning trading in London on Wednesday. By SpikeyDT |

| BEST OF THE BROKERS http://www.cityam.com/news-and-analysis/best-the-brokers/best-the-brokers-456 Thursday 24th November 2011, 12:25am FULLER, SMITH & TURNER Numis rates the pub group add with a target price of 775p, up from 725p to reflect its enlarged managed pub acquisition scheme. The broker thinks Fuller will report a three per cent rise in pre-tax profits when it reports tomorrow, and believes the firm is well-placed to continue its outperformance. Numis is also impressed by the firms strong balance sheet and London-biased freehold estate. BRITVIC Nomura rates the drinks firm buy with a price target of 415p following the firms in-line fourth quarter trading statement. The broker thinks investors will focus on Britvics expected dividend hike and a possible rise in its pensions deficit when the firm reports its next set of results. Nomura expects the firm to deliver five per cent revenue growth in the UK and France next year. SMITH & NEPHEW Goldman Sachs rates the medical devices firm buy but has cut its target price from 775p to 740p. The broker has trimmed its growth forecasts by one per cent for the next two years, ahead of sluggish growth in US elective surgery volumes. However, Goldman remains convinced that the firm can deliver above-market growth of five per cent and strengthen its margins in the medium term. By SpikeyDT |

The company's trading statement yesterday suggested a slowdown in its fourth quarter: revenues rose by only 0.3 per cent compared to strong growth in the third, held back by falling sales in Ireland and France. But while the problems of the former are hardly surprising given its economic troubles, the French business (acquired last year) did face particularly tough comparatives. Britvic's fourth quarter is made up of July, August, and September. Last year in France those months were hot, this year they were not. So a fall in sales of 1.5 per cent is not a bad result. What's more, the British and international franchise operations did well. For the year to 2 October, overall group revenues grew 0.8 per cent, and by 14.6 per cent to £1.3bn including that French business, acquired in the third quarter of last year. The group also pushed through some price increases: the GB and International average realised price was 2.1 per cent higher. The shares have fallen since we last updated our view in December. So much so, that the valuation is starting to look very compelling. The stock trades on a multiple of just 8 times full year forecast earnings, with a cracking prospective yield of 6 per cent. To put this in perspective, Panmure has highlighted that the valuation represents a discount to the group's international peer group of about 45 per cent. That's undeserved. Soft drinks are clearly not entirely immune from economic woes. But these shares are undervalued. Buy By SpikeyDT |

| One to watch: Britvic Published Date: 06 September 2011 By Bryan Johnston of Brewin Dolphin Scotsman says BUY http://business.scotsman.com/business/One-to-watch-Britvic.6831287.jp Britvic's share price has fallen sharply in recent weeks from a 2011 peak of around 440p. It has been a rotten summer in Europe and this has persuaded quite a marked reassessment of earnings prospects for the full year. Moreover, many companies with any sort of involvement in consumer markets have tended to be sold down aggressively and, in some instances, indiscriminately, of late. In fact, Britvic is a well-run group with important brands, which themselves enjoy significant market penetration. This year's share price weakness has taken the prospective price to earnings ratio down to around 9, earning a yield of around 6 per cent. The cold weather in June saw the soft drinks market fall over 8 per cent in the UK and 13 per cent in Ireland but the current rating seems to recognise the seasonal challenges but overlook the operational efficiencies and revenue generation capacity of this group. Britvic is one of Europe's leading soft drink companies. The company employs 3,500 people and sells 1.9 billion litres of soft drinks annually. Britvic 306.9p -9.4p Scotsman says BUY By SpikeyDT |
