| AVACTA has expanded into new laboratories and offices at Thorp Arch Estate. The fast-growing biotechnology company, which grew up on York Science Park, moved to Thorp Arch Estate two years ago to expand. It has now taken on an additional 10,000 sq ft in two units including purpose-built office premises, fitted out as new laboratories and further offices and manufacturing space. Avacta, which employs about 70 people, is taking on about ten more staff following its acquisition in January of Leeds University spin-out Aptuscan. Tim Munns, director of Wharfedale Property Management Ltd, which manages Thorp Arch Estate said: We are keen to develop a science park, focusing on health and innovation, on the north side of the estate providing laboratories and offices for enterprises with similar requirements to Avacta. Alastair Smith, chief executive, said: Our expansion at Thorp Arch Estate will accommodate our immediate business growth. This is an ideal location for biotechnology enterprises with a tranquil atmosphere and excellent access to the motorway network and we are enthusiastic about the estate managements plans to create a wider science park facility. | OK, market has taken this quite well. Lets hope we can hold onto the gains and set a new base line ready for updates on AX-1 sales. We will however need these updates and ideally updates on any significant Optim sales throughout the rest of the year. Good communication to shareholders and to the market. I know I keep banging on about it - but it makes all the difference. By Squirrelavenger |

| Suki - yes it looks positive. However the sales are only just over the targets from Panmure and yet more delays from AX-1. Things are now in place and revenues may well advance hand over fist but jam tomorrow is not what the market likes to hear at the moment. I stay invested because I believe in the long term this will be a good investment. Short term though, I await the response at 8am. Squirrel. By Squirrelavenger |

| Avacta looks forward with confidence to the second half of this year. The company is well capitalised, with a strong balance sheet and a fully funded pipeline of technology and tests, as well as the recently acquired Affimer reagent platform. The Group anticipates shipping the first AX.1 units in the the next few months and rapidly expanding that product's test menu as quickly as possible. By suki the dog |

Highlights · Revenue increased by 72% to £1.72 million (2011: £1.00 million) · Reduction in operating loss before amortisation and share based payment charges to £0.39 million (2011: £0.54 million) · Loss per share improved to 0.02 pence (2011: 0.03 pence) · Strong balance sheet with £5.81 million cash · Acquisition of non-antibody affinity reagent platform to extend protein analysis tools offering into drug and biomarker discovery area and to provide proprietary reagents for core diagnostics business · Raised £4.87 million to fully fund the Group to accelerate growth through investment in AX.1 test menu, new technology products and the new affinity reagents platform · Optim units ahead of target at the half year with 13 units shipped and installed base increased to 27 · Partnership agreement with Pall extended to cover Optim sales and support in South East Asia and analytical services in North America · First AX.1 despatches anticipated during H2 2012 Alastair Smith, Chief Executive Officer, commented: "Avacta is in its strongest ever position with two core businesses making good progress during the period. The business is fully funded and capable of exploiting substantial intellectual property in its own pipeline of technology and tests, and in the recently acquired Affimer reagent platform. I am delighted that the Group is nearing the point of shipping the first AX.1 units. Despite some manufacture-related delays, the product is nearing market readiness and the test menu will be expanded as rapidly as possible. The addition of a proprietary affinity reagents platform to the business will allow Avacta to extend its protein analysis tools into the drug and biomarker discovery area. The Group's vision is to provide drug developers with proteomic tools that will follow drugs through development and eventually provide the companion diagnostics of the future. The potential for growth in Avacta is enormous." By suki the dog |

| Finally, healthcare technology and consumables business Avacta (AVCT) will report interim results for the period to 31 January. These will be the first financial results since the company's acquisition of the affinity reagents platform and recapitalisation in December. "For a company at such an early stage of its development we expect some lumpiness in revenues particularly associated with new product launches," warns Savvas Neophytou, analyst at Panmure Gordon. "Depending on the delays with AX-1 and the incremental cash burn assumed with the acquired affinity reagents platform, our forecasts may require modest revisions downward. However, he is expecting the company's flagship analytical instrument, Optim, to account for most of his revenue forecast for the period of £1.7 million. Optim has the potential to improve biopharmaceutical drug development. Speed and testing costs are vastly improved with Optim, taking timelines down to seven days from six months and costs down to £5,000 per molecule from £50,000. He is thus forecasting the company to place some 28 Optim systems in medical establishments over the year, while stressing that the company reaching in the region of between 12 and 13 "would be par". Panmure rates the stock a 'buy'. By suki the dog |

| 8:28 24/04/2012 | Re: Update on 25th |
| I think they might be quite positive; More optims sold = more reoccurring revenues. Anything over and above optim sales from consultancy biz will be a bonus! I think tradin update for this year will be quite interesting although I expect to see higher losses due to the commissioning of the new manufacturing facility for property plant equipment and staff. One should not worry about this though as this is what the placin last year paid for... By junior1234 |
